About Me
Welcome to 211. My name is Mr. Cantero and I am one of the 5th grade Dual Language Teachers here at Volta!
Having lived my whole life in Chicago, it brings me nothing but joy to be able to give back to a community that has done so much for me. Although I grew up in Rogers Park, my teen years were spent here in Albany Park. I went to Von Steuben for High School and it was the best choice I could have made as that helped shape me into the person I am today. I would go to the Albany Park Library after school to study or go to River Park to play soccer with friends. I would walk around Lawrence every Friday to go fill up my bus card and walk to La Michoacana for a mangoneada. Those are memories that I have of being here in Albany Park and there are many more!
Besides being able to teach here at Volta, I am also a soccer coach at Von Steuben, so I feel like I have come full circle. I will also be in charge of starting a soccer program here at Volta this year, so I am really looking forward to seeing it grow and prosper in the years to come. In addition, I went to the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Urban Education and I have a middle school math endorsement.
Being able to work here at Volta has been an amazing experience so far. This is my fourth year here and I can't imagine myself being at any other school. Volta is full of diversity and it reminds me so much of the school environment that I grew up in. You can hear many different languages being spoken on a daily basis and it's great to see that both the students and adults continue to speak the home language and are not forgetting about it. I hope that we can continue to nurture our students into becoming dominant in multiple languages.

Bienvenidos al salon 211. ¡Mi nombre es Sr. Cantero y soy uno de los maestros de lenguaje dual de quinto grado aquí en Volta!
Habiendo vivido toda mi vida en Chicago, no me produce más que alegría poder contribuir a una comunidad que ha hecho tanto por mí. Aunque crecí en Rogers Park, pasé mi adolescencia aquí en Albany Park. Fui a la escuela secundaria en Von Steuben y fue la mejor elección que pude haber hecho, ya que me ayudó a convertirme en la persona que soy hoy. Iba a la biblioteca de Albany Park después de la escuela para estudiar o iba a River Park a jugar fútbol con amigos. Caminaba por Lawrence todos los viernes para llenar mi tarjeta de autobús y caminaba hasta La Michoacana a comprarme una mangoneada. Esos son recuerdos que tengo de estar aquí en Albany Park y ¡hay muchos más!
Además de ser maestro aquí en Volta, también soy entrenador de fútbol en Von Steuben. También estaré a cargo de iniciar un programa de fútbol aquí en Volta este año, así que tengo muchas ganas de verlo crecer y prosperar en los años venideros. Además, fui a la Universidad de Illinois en Chicago y me gradué con una licenciatura en Educación Urbana y tengo un respaldo en matemáticas de escuela secundaria.
Poder trabajar aquí en Volta ha sido una experiencia increíble hasta ahora. Este es mi cuarto año aquí y no me imagino en ninguna otra escuela. Volta está lleno de diversidad y me recuerda mucho al ambiente escolar en el que crecí. Se pueden escuchar muchos idiomas diferentes a diario y es genial ver que tanto los estudiantes como los adultos continúan hablando el idioma del hogar y que no lo olvidamos. Espero que podamos seguir educando a nuestros estudiantes para que dominen varios idiomas.
